Neuralia Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

Neuroplasticity is promoted by frequent TMS treatments. As such, we generally recommend 30 minute appointments, 5 times per week for up to 8 weeks (35 sessions) to ensure the best results. To access the Medicare rebate, a GP or Psychiatrist can refer you to Neuralia for a no-gap TMS suitability assessment.

Referral

Your GP/psychiatrist will refer you to us for TMS therapy. A team member will contact you to book your first appointment.

Initial Review & TMS Prescription

Our TMS Psychiatrist will have an in-depth review with you to ensure you are safe to proceed, obtain informed consent and prescribe the appropriate TMS therapy protocol.

Mapping & Resting Motor Threshold

Our TMS Psychiatrist and TMS Nurses will perform mapping and determine the RMT prior to the first treatment session.

Acute Treatment Phase

You will receive TMS up to 5 times per week for 35 sessions, delivered by our TMS Nurses. We will regularly check to see if you’re responding well to treatment.

Ongoing Treatment Phase

Our TMS Psychiatrist will review you and assess the need for further TMS sessions (up to 35 total if under Medicare).

Discharge

Our TMS Psychiatrist will write a detailed treatment summary on discharge. If required, you may have maintenance therapy at a reduced frequency.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

TMS stimulates under-active regions of the brain to promote neuroplasticity (increased connections between nerve cells), which influences neurotransmitter molecule release. The electromagnetic TMS coil is positioned over specific brain regions to deliver targeted treatment without any drugs or recovery time.

What are the costs of TMS?

TMS reviews with the psychiatrist have no gap payments. TMS Treatment sessions are $180 (or a max of $44 out-of-pocket for Medicare-eligible patients).

TMS on Medicare
TMS therapy has been listed on Medicare for Treatment Resistant Depression. Medicare will cover 75% of the cost of treatment for eligible patients. Patients who do not meet the Medicare criteria can still receive treatment.

TMS on DVA
TMS is fully covered under DVA for all White and Gold card holders.
