While the odds are extremely slim, the Boise Hawks still have a narrow shot of making it to the playoffs.
Boise is currently two games into a nine-game homestand, the Hawks' last of the year. With seven home games left and three road games after that, the Hawks have to close a 7.5 game deficit within the final 10 games to secure a postseason berth.
The Hawks (43-43) are tied for 2nd in the South Division, however, the PBL has a split-season format for playoff qualification. The season is broken into two halves, and the winners of each half from each division qualify. Boise came 2nd in the first half of the season, going 28-20.
However, Boise hasn't been as sharp in the second half of the season. The Hawks are 15-23, 7.5 games from the division lead, closer to the bottom of the division than the top.
If Boise can miraculously close the gap, they'd qualify for the four-team playoff where they'd face the Ogden Raptors.
The Hawks play each day Thursday-Sunday this week/weekend against the Grand Junction Jackalopes. First pitch is at 7:05 every night except for Sunday, where first pitch is at 1:05 p.m. The teams are two games into the series; Boise won Tuesday 9-1 and Grand Junction won Wednesday 14-11.
After the Jackalopes, the Hawks face the Missoula Paddleheads in Boise before traveling to Great Falls for the final three games of the regular season.
Tonight's game (Thursday 8/31) features Thirsty Thursday promotions; tonight is also part of the Hawks' concert series.
