Aaron Judge is an American professional baseball player. He stands 6ft 7in and plays the right fielder position for the New York Yankees. He made his MLB debut with the Yankees in 2016. Judge was born on April 26, 1992, in Linden, California. He was adopted and raised by educators Patty and Wayne Judge. His adopted older brother, John, is an English teacher in South Korea. Judge attended Linden High School, where he was competitive in baseball, football, and basketball. In baseball, he manned first base and pitched. He also led the team to the CIF Division III playoffs. Judge continued his baseball career and education at California State University, Fresno.
CAREER
Judge was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the 2010 MLB draft, but he chose instead to enroll at California State University, Fresno. He played three seasons for the Fresno State Bulldogs from 2011 to 2013. He earned Freshman All-American honors his first year. Judge led the Bulldogs in home runs, doubles, and RBIs his junior year. He was named to the All-Mountain West Conference team three consecutive seasons. Judge was selected by the New York Yankees with the 32nd overall pick in the 2013 Major League Baseball draft. He signed a rookie contract but a leg injury prevented him from playing even a single game in the 2013 season. His professional debut came the following year with the Charleston RiverDogs of the Class A South Atlantic League. Judge was promoted to the Tampa Yankees of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League, then to the Trenton Thunder of the Class AA Eastern League, and later to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders of the Class AAA International League. He represented the Yankees at the 2015 All-Star Futures Game and was named to the 2016 International League All-Star Team.
Judge made his MLB debut with the Yankees on August 13, 2016, against the Tampa Bay Rays. He hit a home run in his first two MLB games. He’s the first player in Yankees history to achieve this feat since Joe Lefebvre back in 1980. Judge was named as a starting outfielder for the 2017 All-Star Game. He broke the Yankees’ record for home runs by a rookie with 30. The record was previously held by Joe DiMaggio with 29. Judge earned 3 American League Rookie of the Month Awards from April to June 2017. He was dubbed the 2017 Home Run Derby champion over Miguel Sano of the Minnesota Twins. He’s the first rookie ever to win the title outright. Judge is also the first player in MLB history to record 40 home runs and more than 75 walks in 140 games.
