In World of Warcraft Classic, Hunters can tame wild beasts. Tamed animals become their pets and help in combat by tanking or increasing the DPS of the Hunter. Hunters need to feed their pets to keep them happy. Additionally, a Hunter can learn pet abilities and teach these abilities to different pets. Learn everything about pets and the changes in SoD in our WoW SoD Hunter Pet Guide.
How to Tame Pets as a Hunter in WoW Classic?
To tame a pet as a Hunter in WoW Classic you need to reach level 10. After reaching level 10 you get a quest from your Hunter trainer. This starts a quest chain that sends you to tame different pets. After completing all the steps, you learn the ability Tame Beast.
The best practice to tame a beast is to activate Aspect of the Monkey. Then drop a Freezing Trap at your feet and cast Tame Beast on the beast you’d like to tame. The beast will attack you while you’re trying to tame it. The Freezing Trap will not last long enough but helps to reduce the damage.
What is the Best Hunter Pet in SoD?
The best Hunter pets in Season of Discovery are Wind Serpents and Cats.
- If you use the rune Flanking Strike you take a Wind Serpent or a Cat with an attack speed of 2.0.
- If you use Kill Command you take any cat. The attack speed of the cat does not matter for Kill Command. Raptors are very close to cats and can be used as well.
- A cat with an attack speed of 1.2 is the best Hunter pet for PvP in phase 1. The fast attack speed causes pushbacks on the casts from your enemy. The faster your pet attacks, the more delays your enemy has.
The patch on December 12th fixed the scaling of Scorpids. Of all pets, the poison of Scorpids had the highest DPS increase in dungeons and raids until the patch hit. After the patch, Scorpids are no longer recommended. In our guide, you’ll find updated WoW SoD Hunter BiS & Talents for the current patch.
Where to Find the Best Wind Serpent in SoD?
To find the best Wind Serpent in Season of Discovery, you want to tame Washte Pawne in The Barrens or a Cloud Serpent in Thousand Needles. You need to find a Cloud Serpent with level 25, as you can’t tame a beast above your character level.
Both these Wind Serpents come with Lightning Breath rank 3. This is the highest Lightning Breath available at level 25. In the following screenshots, you can see the locations of the Wind Serpents:
What do Wind Serpents Eat in WoW Classic?
Wind Serpents in WoW Classic eat bread, cheese, and fish. Fish is very good to carry since you can feed cats with fish too. In case you’re using both pet families, fish is the best food to carry around.
Where to Find the Best Cat in SoD?
To find the best Cat in Season of Discovery, you want to tame a Ghost Saber or Starving Mountain Lion.
- Ghost Saber can be found in Darkshore. The cat has an attack speed of 2.0 and is the best bet for Hunters while melee weaving. You need to interact with Cat Figurines to summon Ghost Saber.
- Starving Mountain Lion can be found in Hillsbrad Foothills and has the fastest attack speed currently available. With an attack speed of 1.2, it is the best pet for PvP.
For Hunters that do not melee weave in PvE, both cats are equally good. In the following screenshots, you can see the locations of the cats:
Raluk has the same attack speed as Starving Mountain Lion and can be used as well. As a Orc or Troll, you might have tamed Raluk in Durotar to get your Rune of Flanking.
What are the Best Pet Skills in Phase 1 of WoW SoD?
The best skills to use on your pet are Claw (rank 4) and Bite (rank 4). To teach these skills to your pet, you need to learn them first. This is how you learn them:
To check what abilities you’ve learned, use the spell Beast Training. After you’ve learned the spells, you can abandon Giant Moss Creeper and Elder Ashenvale Bear.
You can find Giant Moss Creeper everywhere in Hillsbrad Foothills. In the following screenshot, you can see the locations of Elder Ashenvale Bear in Ashenvale:
