Ali Wong is an American stand-up comedian, actress, and television writer. Her Netflix specials include Baby Cobra (2016) and Hard Knock Wife (2018). She co-stars as “Doris” on the ABC sitcom American Housewife. Other television appearances include Are You There, Chelsea?, Black Box, Inside Amy Schumer, and Chelsea Lately. Wong was born Alexandra Dawn Wong on April 19, 1982, in San Francisco, California. Her parents are Adolphus and Tam. She has three older siblings including sister Mimi. Wong attended San Francisco University High School followed by the University of California, Los Angeles. She graduated summa cum laude in 2005 with a BA degree in Asian American Studies.

CAREER
Wong developed an interest in performing while at UCLA. She was an active member of the university’s LCC Theatre Company. Her first public performance was at the Brainwash Cafe in her home city of San Francisco. Wong got her start in New York City performing up to 9 acts per night. She was dubbed one of the 10 comics to watch in 2011 by Variety magazine. As her popularity grew, she landed gigs on light-night programs like The Tonight Show, and Chelsea Lately. In 2011, Wong made her acting debut on the Fox sitcom Breaking In. She followed up with a recurring role as “Olivia” on Are You There, Chelsea? (2012). Wong made her feature film debut in the crime thriller, Savages (2012). The film was directed by Oliver Stone and stars Taylor Kitsch, Benicio del Toro, and Salma Hayek among others. Her next film role was as “Katieie” in Jeff Garlin’s Dealin’ with Idiots (2013). Wong had a supporting role as “Ali” in the comedy Father Figures (2017). She voiced the character “Betty Bird” for The Angry Birds Movie (2016), and “General Olivia” for The Lego Ninjago Movie (2017). Wong starred as “Dr. Lina Lark” in the short-lived drama series Black Box. She guest-starred on 3 episodes of ‘Inside Amy Schumer’ between 2014 and 2015. Her television writing credits include ABC’s Fresh Off the Boat. Wong currently stars as “Doris” on the ABC sitcom American Housewife (2016-). The show was created by Sarah Dunn and the main cast includes Katy Mixon, Diedrich Bader, and Meg Donnelly.

Wong’s Netflix comedy special ‘Baby Cobra’ was released in May 2016. It was filmed in September 2015 at the Neptune Theatre in Seattle, Washington. She was 7 months pregnant during filming. Wong’s second special ‘Hard Knock Wife’ arrived on Netflix in May 2018. Again, it was filmed while she was 7 months pregnant. Wong’s upcoming projects include the film Always Be My Maybe (2019), and the adult animated series ‘Tuca and Bertie’.
